Vascular screenings

Mercy Iowa City will conduct vascular screenings on:

Thursday, June 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mercy Services Coralville, 2055 Oakdale Rd., Coralville

This $99 screening package includes stroke/carotid artery ultrasound, abdominal aortic ultrasound, ankle-brachial index, and blood pressure checks. All results are reviewed by Mercy vascular surgeon Peter McDonnell, MD.

Vascular disease is among the leading causes of death in the United States. However, it is generally without symptoms until a catastrophic event occurs, such as a stroke or aneurysm rupture.

The screenings are recommended for people 55 years or older with cardiovascular risk factors such as a history of high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, smoking, high cholesterol, or known cardiovascular disease.

Payment can be by check, cash, Mastercard or Visa and needs to be made in advance. To register, call Mercy On Call at 358-2767 or 1-800-358-2767.
