Mercy Iowa
City and its medical staff offer a range of mental health services
to the community.
Mercy provides
an inpatient unit, 4 North, for the care of adults (age 18 and older)
with psychiatric disorders. Patient comfort and safety are the staff's
foremost priority. Diagnoses most commonly seen on the unit include
but are not limited to:
- Delirium
dementia and other cognitive disorders
- Mood disorders
(depressive and bipolar) and anxiety disorders
In addition
to their personal physician, patients have a registered nurse assigned
to their care 24 hours a day. Medical social workers, pastoral care
associates, and other healthcare professionals are also involved
with patient care as appropriate. Services include:
- Family therapy
and referral
- Nutritional
evaluation and counseling, provided by a registered dietitian
- Spiritual
support and counseling
- Recreation
therapy
- Medical
psychotherapy and pharmacology management
- Voluntary
classes and activities such as communication, self-esteem, stress
management, and more
Visiting hours
on 4 North are until 9:30 p.m. daily. Overnight guest lodging is
available on 3 Mercy North for family members that want to stay
near their loved one.
