Mercy
Hospice Care is more than a place—it
is a philosophy of care that affirms life and accepts death as the
final stage of life. Mercy Hospice Care treats the end of life with
compassion and provides support to loved ones. Our hope is to enable
individuals to live peacefully and fully through the final stages
of illness, spending their days in dignity and comfort, surrounded
by loved ones.
Hospice care
is for individuals who have a terminal diagnosis and six months
or less to live. While in-home hospice care is available in this
area, many patients and families can benefit from the supportive
atmosphere and resources of Mercy Hospice Care.
The primary
setting for Mercy Hospice Care is 5 Mercy North. The unit features
six spacious, homelike patient rooms that accommodate family members
who want to spend the night. All patient rooms face north, overlooking
the tree-lined streets of Iowa City’s northside neighborhood.
In these comfortable rooms, it is easy to listen to music, watch
TV or movies, use a computer, or just spend time together. The rooms
are designed for comfort and togetherness, with support for limited
medical needs.
The unit also
includes:
- Meditation
chapel
- Complete
kitchen, dining, and lounge
- Family room
and children’s play area
- Additional
shower facilities for family members
- Laundry
facilities for family members
- Quiet room
- Whirlpool
room for patients
Two additional
hospice rooms are available on the nursing units 3 West and 4 Center.
Two levels of
hospice care are available:
- Hospice Inpatient
Care is delivered under specific Medicare conditions.
- Respite Care
gives the caregiver a break from providing home care for up to
five days at a time.
All gifts to
Mercy Hospice Care are greatly appreciated and assist Mercy in providing
compassionate care. Donors who make gifts of $1,000 or more for
the hospice unit will be recognized on the donor recognition wall
in the unit. Memorial gifts of $1,000 or more will be recognized
in the name of the person remembered.
To make a gift, contact Mercy Hospital Foundation at 319-358-2622
