New vice
president begins duties at Mercy Iowa City

2009/Iowa City, IA: Dr. Martin Izakovic has been named Vice President
of Medical Staff Affairs and Chief
Medical Officer at Mercy Iowa City, effective January 1, 2010. Dr.
Izakovic has worked as the Medical Director of Mercy’s Hospitalist
Program since 2006 and will continue to have responsibility for
the Hospitalist Program and practice medicine as a Hospitalist.
Dr. Izakovic
succeeds longtime Mercy physician Pete Wallace, MD, as Vice President
of Medical Staff Affairs. Dr. Wallace retired December 31 after
serving the community for more than 20 years as a pediatrician and
15 years as a hospital administrator.
Dr. Izakovic
received his medical education from Comenius University in Bratislava,
Slovakia, and did his internal medicine residency in the Cleveland
Clinic Health System. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Internal Medicine and Fellow in the American College of Physicians—American
Society of Internal Medicine. In 2009 Dr. Izakovic became a Fellow
of the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of
Physician Executives in recognition of his contributions to hospital
medicine and medical management.
